Curtis Hughes

April 15, 1956 — July 22, 2021

Curtis Wayne Hughes, age 65, of French Lick, Indiana, went to Heaven to be with his Lord and Savior on July 22nd, 2021 at his residence. He was in the comfort of his home with his wife, family, and devoted dogs, Lucy, Desi, and Toby.

He was born in Anchorage, Alaska on April 15th, 1956 to Elmer Hughes and Constance (Stone) Glass where his father was in the United States Air Force.

Wayne was preceded in death by his Parents and (1) Son – Jason Hughes on October 16th, 2020.

In 1975, he met his sweetheart of 45 years, Lena Feltner and they were married on April 27th, 1976.

He was a 1974 graduate of Castle High School where he ran track and played football.

Everyone knew him by his middle name, Wayne. Growing up, Wayne’s family and friends instilled the value of hard work and a zest for life. His father owned and operated Southern Indiana Asphalt in Evansville where he learned asphalt work. In 1978, he started his own asphalt business, Hughes Paving Co., Inc. He worked hard and was a mentor to the men that worked for him.

When his children, Jason, Michael, and Angie were old enough, they worked for the business as well. Angie married Sgt. Jason Matthews and has a military life. Michael and his wife Rena now run Hughes Paving Co., Inc. and that made Wayne very proud. He was a kind and giving person and hardworking man who put his family and church first. He was a member of CrossPoint Fellowship Church in Jasper, Indiana where he helped build the church and also, the Calvary Baptist Church in Huntingburg, Indiana.

Wayne also enjoyed boating and fishing. Being an avid boater, he was truly captain of his ship whether on the water, at home or in the office. He was a special person with deep love for his family, friends, and the joy of life. But what he cherished most was spending time with family and watching his grandchildren play their sports.

He is survived by:
