Audrey Finney

September 22, 1928 — November 29, 2015

Audrey (Maas) Finney of Lansing, Illinois entered into eternal rest Sunday November 29, 2015 at Springs Valley Meadows in  French Lick, Indiana.

She was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 22, 1928 to Douglas and Irene (McGuire) Maas.
Following graduation from Hirsch High School in Chicago, Audrey obtained her B. A. Degree from Culver Stockton College in Canton, Missouri. While there she was active in the Sigma Kappa Sorority and was the editor of the college newspaper.

She married Laurence William (Bill) Finney on June 20, 1950.

Audrey was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Lansing, Illinois.  Audrey’s great love of music was reflected in her many years of service with the church choir.  She had a beautiful soprano voice and her involvement with the choir brought her much joy.

Audrey was also involved in the Lansing Jr. Women’s club.  Her love of music and the performing arts was reflected in the many play productions the club presented for the children of the community.
Perhaps Audrey’s greatest contribution to the Lansing community was her many years of teaching at Memorial Jr. High School.  During her tenure at Memorial she dedicated herself to raising the bar of education for her students.  She was especially proud of introducing her students each year to Charles Dickens “A Christmas Carol” and her work with the school newspaper “The Flash.”  Following retirement Audrey was very involved with the Illinois Retired Teacher Association.

She is survived by (2) sons, Rev. Douglas S. Finney (Margaret) of French Lick IN, Scott Laurence Finney (Jean) of Sleepy Hollow IL.
