Ernest "Ernie" Stevens
March 27, 1931 — April 17, 2024
French Lick
Ernest Stevens, 93, of French Lick, Indiana entered into eternal rest on April 17th, 2024 at Springs Valley Meadows in French Lick.
He was born in Muncie, Indiana on March 27th, 1931 to Perry Franklin and Bertie B. (Harris) Stevens.
Ernie married the love of his life Opal Weikert on June 24th, 1961 and she preceded him in death on November 28th, 2023.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, Sisters – Ruby Qualkenbush, Opal Burton, and Mary Oakley and Brothers – Floyd, William, Robert, and Kenneth Stevens.
Ernie was a 1949 graduate of West Baden High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army serving in the 31st Infantry Regiment of the 7th Infantry Division in the Korean War.
He retired in 1991 from the pipeline pump station in Celestine, did carpentry work and construction, where he helped build many bridges in the area.
Ernie enjoyed farming, spending time outside, studying the bible and religious text, listening to and singing along to gospel music and video filming his family. He also loved to cook and spend time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by:
Daughter – Debra Stevens Fix (James) of Bloomington, Indiana
Son – Benjamin Stevens (June) of Springtown, Texas
Brother – Perry Dean Stevens (Janet) of West Baden Springs, Indiana
Sister – Betty Moffatt of August, Georgia
Grandchildren – Joshua, Joseph (Jackalynn) and Jessica Fix
Several Nieces, Nephews, Friends and Loved Ones
FUNERAL CEREMONY
A Funeral Ceremony will be conducted by Pastor Randy Stevens on Sunday, April 21st, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Crystal Community Church with burial to follow at Crystal Community Cemetery.
VISITATION
Visitation for family and friends will be Sunday, April 21st, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Crystal Community Cemetery, c/o Melvin Jones, 9097 N. 900 E., Dubois, Indiana 47527.
