Larry Sherman Flick, 84 of French Lick, Indiana entered into eternal rest on May 21st, 2025 at his residence.
He was born in French Lick, Indiana on July 23rd, 1940 to Floyd Glenn and Mildred Elizabeth (Mynatt) Flick. He was sure the reason he always loved the outdoors was because his mother, nine months pregnant with him, was so uncomfortable trying to sleep in the hot house, that they slept outside in the yard on a blanket the night before he was born.
As a child he attended Cane Creek School in a two-room schoolhouse that accommodated several grades. He grew up helping his dad and grandfather on the farm with the apple orchard they had for many years. He graduated from Springs Valley High School in 1958, the first class to graduate after the consolidation of West Baden and French Lick schools.
Larry decided to join the Air Force along with some of the other young men in his class. He looked up to an uncle who was an Air Force veteran. After boot camp he was stationed in Hawaii for three years. When he returned home in 1962, he met his future wife, Marilyn Anne Coffey. They were married in 1963 and moved to Indianapolis where he started working and would stay for 32 years at the General Motors Chevrolet plant. While there, he completed the apprenticeship program and spent his time as a machine repairman.
Larry and Marilyn had two children, a daughter – Teresa Anne and then a son James Glen. They were also blessed with five grandsons – Benjamin, Samuel, Nathan, Austin, and Collin, and one sweet great-grandson – Waylon.
Over the years he enjoyed bowling, golf, and especially fishing. The highlight of fishing for him was a big walleye tournament, where in the summer of 1992 they would fish in different lakes around the country. Larry and his wife Marilyn bought their first house in 1967 between Martinsville and Paragon, Indiana in the country and a serious fixer upper, which kept them busy. They along with some great friends built their first new home in 1979 in Morgan County, Indiana. It was a beautiful inground home where they would live for 19 years. During these years they also built a house in Mooresville, and helped their son build his house at Lake Edgewood near Martinsville, Indiana. In 1995, Larry retired from General Motors. Larry and Marilyn then moved back to his homeplace in French Lick in the year 2000 and built their retirement home.
Larry was a member of the Cane Creek Christian Church and later would attend church for many years at the Springs Valley Wesleyan Church in French Lick.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son – James Flick. He is survived by his wife – Marilyn, brother – Barry Dean Flick and daughter – Teresa Flick and her husband Dan Barger. His daughter-in-law Jennifer Flick and grandsons - Austin Flick, Collin Flick and his wife Madison and their son Waylon, Nathan Flick, Sam LaRiviere and his wife Jackie and Benjamin LaRiviere and his fiancé Mehgan, and niece Harmony Flick Kozak.
