Louanna L. Walters, age 85, of Campbell Hall, NY passed away peacefully on May 23, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born to Evalue and Clifford Walters on September 21,1939. Her entire life was devoted to her teaching and coaching career at Valley Central High School.
She was born in Gary, IN, where she grew up with her two sisters, Darlene and Denise and a brother Darrell. She graduated from Lew Wallace High School, received a BS degree from Vaparaiso University, Indiana. She received her Masters in Physical Education at Ithaca College in New York. She retired in 1995.
Lou lived a full life teaching and traveling across the United States and nine European countries. She traveled many states following the USA Softball Team and attended the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and the 2000 Olympics in Australia. She was also part of fighting for women’s sports and Title 9.
Lou loved all the wildlife including birds, feathers, chipmunks, squirrels and multiple deer. All these critters could be seen on her three-acre property with great mountain view. She also loved all her dogs as children, especially Chico, who was her most spoiled.
Lou will be remembered for her kindness to others always putting them first before herself. She was an Eastern Star member, member of the NYSR System, and the Hamptonburgh Helping Hands Craft Group.
Lou leaves behind her longtime friend Phyllis Gordon, friends and one surviving sister, Denise Walters Moore, and several nieces, nephews, greats and great-greats. And of course, her little dog, Chico.
She was predeceased by her parents Evalue and Clifford, her sister Rita Darlene Walters Terry, brother Darrell Duane Walters (Pat), all of Crawfordville, Indiana, and baby brother Clifford Gorden Walters.
A Funeral Ceremony will be Thursday, June 5th, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. at Brosmer-Kemple Funeral Home with burial to follow at Ames Chapel Cemetery.
Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday, June 5th, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to your local Humane Society.
