Luther C. Shipman

November 24, 1926 — March 21, 2020

Luther C. Shipman, 93, of French Lick, Indiana passed away March 21st, 2020 at Springs Valley Meadows, French Lick, Indiana.

He was born in French Lick, Indiana on November 24th, 1926 to Luther Albert Shipman and Hester (Howerton) Shipman.

Luther married Helen Pridemore on June 16th, 1951 and she survives.

He was preceded in death by his Parents; (3) Brothers – Arthur Hicks, Louis Shipman, and William “Bill” Shipman; (4) Sisters – Flossie Wininger, Mabel Shipman, Roberta Crowder, Geneva Qualkenbush; and (1) Child in Infancy.

Luther was a 1945 graduate of French Lick High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII as a submarine inspector serving in France, Belgium and Germany.

He was a member of the Paoli Wesleyan Church where he taught a Sunday School class for over 28 years, and had retired from NSWC Crane after 30 years.

Luther enjoyed doing carpentry, playing golf, mowing the yard and loved his family and playing with his great-grandchildren.

(15) Great-Grandchildren and number 16 is due in September.

 

Visitation and Funeral Services for Mr. Shipman have been restricted to private, due to Gov. Eric Holcomb’s Executive Order of Shelter In Place regarding the COVID-19 Pandemic. While this is not our ideal situation, we ask that you understand we are all new at this reaction to the pandemic situation at hand.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at a later date at the Paoli Wesleyan Church.

Burial will be at Mount Lebanon Cemetery in French Lick, Indiana.

 

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Mount Lebanon Cemetery Fund, c/o Wayne Ferguson, 9711 W. State Rd 56, French Lick, Indiana 47432 in memory of Luther C. Shipman.
