Marilyn Stout

April 21, 1940 — February 22, 2024

French Lick

Marilyn Stout, 83, of French Lick, Indiana, entered into eternal rest on February 22nd, 2024 at Springs Valley Meadows in French Lick, Indiana.

She was born in Paoli, Indiana on April 21st, 1940 to John D. and Mary Alice (Moore) Nelson.

Marilyn married the love of her life Raymond “Rip” Stout on June 20th, 1959 and he preceded her in death on January 26th, 2022.

She was also preceded in death by her Parents, Brothers – Donald and Kenneth Pinnick and Sister – Carolyn “Jo” Campbell

Marilyn was a 1958 graduate of Springs Valley High School and a member of Moore’s Ridge Church.

She was a wonderful wife to Raymond and an amazing mother to her four children.  She was a kind and trusted confidant, showing unconditional love to all of her family.  “I raised my children to be Nelson’s” in her words.

She taught by example how to be humble, get along with each other and be happy no matter the circumstances of life.  She was a hard-working stay at home mom who helped out for many years on the farm where Raymond worked.

She fondly spoke of her years of living on the farm in Pekin, Illinois.  Marilyn and her family moved back home to Indiana in 1982 where she continued to be a housewife and mother.  Rejoining Moores Ridge Church was one of her greatest joys.  She was an amazing cook and baker and she enjoyed gardening with Raymond, her grandchildren, her pets, and had a passion for doing crossword puzzles in ink.

Marilyn resided at Springs Valley Meadows for the past four years.  Struggling with dementia, she spent her days roaming the halls in her wheelchair on a quest to find home.  She dearly loved her family and physical home in French Lick, but finally found her real home with God and her family above.

Christ turns the way of the world upside down; the great become small and honored ones become humble.  Be small and you will feel His greatness.  Be humble and you will know the honor of heaven.

Marilyn is survived by:

Sons – Joseph Stout of French Lick, Indiana, Daniel Stout (Cherry) of Argenta, Illinois and Michael Stout (Dina) of French Lick, Indiana

Daughter – Rebecca Lottes (Dave) of Alfordsville, Indiana

(10) Grandchildren          (18) Great- Grandchildren

The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at Springs Valley Meadows and to the wonderful Hosparus Hospice workers who gave much needed help and support in the last few weeks of her life.  She had the best nurses and staff working with her and we are so thankful for them.
