Oral Carnes, Jr.

French Lick

 

Oral Carnes, Jr., 98, of French Lick, Indiana entered into eternal rest on May 24th, 2023 at Springs Valley Meadows.

He was born in Crawford County, Indiana on February 10th, 1925 to Oral Carnes, Sr. and Belva Marie (Hammond) Carnes.

Oral married Alma Louise Flick on July 20th, 1946 and she preceded him in death on December 14th, 1998.

He was also preceded in death by his Parents; Grandson – Christopher A. Carnes on July 27th, 1991; (4) Brothers – Bill, Bob, Jack and Richard; and (1) Sister - Violet Condra.

Oral proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was a pilot for over 60 years as well as a flight instructor. He co-owned several airplanes, drove stock cars on dirt tracks, rode motorcycles, drove a school bus for Springs Valley High School and was a tractor trailer driver most of his life. Oral retired after 30 plus years from NSWC Crane in 1976, and his final job was driving the shuttle bus at the French Lick Resort. 

He was a founding member of Springs Valley Christian Church, French Lick Masonic Lodge # 586 since 1956, Red Mans Lodge, Senior Citizens Center, French Lick Railway Museum, Lifetime Member of West Baden Post 149 for over 70 years, VFW 10214 and the DAV.


Oral is survived by:

Son – Ronnie Carnes (Judy) of French Lick, Indiana

(2) Grandsons – Ronald Carnes, Jr. (Linda) of French Lick, Indiana
         Paul Carnes (Glenda) of Columbus, Indiana

(2) Great-Grandchildren – Chloe & Isaac Carnes

Several Nieces and Nephews 

FUNERAL CEREMONY
A Funeral Ceremony will be conducted by Bro. Jack Wilson on Saturday, May 27th, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Brosmer-Kemple Funeral Home with burial to follow at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, French Lick, Indiana.


VISITATION 
Visitation for friends and family will be Saturday, May 27th, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at Brosmer-Kemple Funeral Home, French Lick, Indiana.  


In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Mount Lebanon Cemetery Fund, c/o Mendy Buffington, 7735 W. County Pike West Baden, Indiana 47469 or Springs Valley Christian Church, P.O. Box 148 West Baden Springs, Indiana 47469.
