Rita S. Stackhouse Carnes passed away on Tuesday morning, July 16, 2024 after a nearly two week stay in IU Methodist Hospital ICU.
Rita was a graduate of Springs Valley High School, Class of 1962. She married her love, Bobby R. Carnes, on August 25, 1962 and he preceded her in death on May 2, 2011. She worked with her husband in the Orange County Recorder’s Office where she was Deputy Recorder and then Recorder. Most importantly, she was a fantastic wife and mother.
If you knew Rita, you knew her to be a kind, loving, and loyal human being. She was also very witty. She loved her family and friends fiercely. She excelled as a pianist, was a voracious reader, watcher of British crime dramas and documentaries, and loved cats and was very lovingly tolerable of dogs. She was intensely private by nature and granted the same to others. All around, a decent human being.
She had attended West Baden First Baptist Church and, more recently, Springs Valley Wesleyan Church. Many thanks for Pastor John Moffatt for his compassionate care and concern.
